rioja and crocus stigmas/stigmae?

returned a watermelon the the store today. although bright red, juicy and crisp, every molecule of delicious was missing. now i have 2.32 to spend on more cointreau.



this poor boy evidently got one of the same batch and is weeping in disappointment. i am sorry for you, little sir, but admire your optimism. two bites is more than i would have given it. a bad watermelon is such a huge let down. it's like chomping in to a technicolor gummy worm only to realize it is an old dusty fishing lure, all rubbery and devoid of that boingy sugar jolt.



to console myself about the substandard melon, i made a huge pitcher of sangria. now i am inspired. alcohol can do that (e.g. hemmingway?). so i think a trip to sur la table next week perhaps is in order. must procure a paella pan. already have plenty of pretty saffron threads. they will now graduate from adorning nespresso soy mochas and chocolat chaud - thank you frederic blondeel - to their rightful place of honor in the sofrito. ¡hola y ¡olé!
