food alchemy, or, what do d.c. and my backyard have in common? no, not a big statue of teddy roosevelt doing a karate move
when my yoshino cherry in the backyard blooms, it looks like a cotton candy tree from a distance. monday it had only a single blossom, and by the end of the week the thing had gone berzerker -- every bud has exploded unleashing full on fragrance soon to attract a bevy of buzzing bees.
next year i must to remember to camp out one afternoon and do a time lapse to fully show the amazingmentness of the spectacle of the process. maybe also if after all the petals have confetti'd themselves to the ground, i could harvest them and use mortar and pestle to whip up some of these jobbies --
mmmmmmm, i can taste that waxy, crumbly, sandy, choco facsimile right now. it couldn't be any other way, though. little known fact, these diabetes nuggets are tiny portals to 1977. i would be surprised if john denver or glen campbell didn't at one point put pen to cocktail napkin to musically immortalize the candy's scrumtrulescence.
